At one time the “Iceman” was handing out knockout after knockout. But once the table was turned on him during his bout with “Sugar” Rashad Evans, is he the same? Was “the punch heard around the word” to much for the former knockout artist? It is a question I am sure a lot of you have been asking yourselves. It seems that after that brutal loss to Evans the Iceman has been knocked out one to many times. Proof of that showed during his fight with Mauricio Rua , where chuck was KO’d in the very first round.
Each concussion, especially those in rapid succession, lowers the threshold for further concussions. In short terms, each KO makes it easier to get KO’d again. You don’t have to be put to sleep to suffer a concussion all KO’s are concussions. ”Having your bell rung”, or “losing your legs” and getting “dazed” are all considered concussions. It appears that concussions tend to be cumulative in nature and inflict a certain amount of injury to the brain that current medical imaging techniques are unable to display.
It is sad to say that the Iceman seems to have lost a step or he just can’t seem to perform the way he used to. It looks as if he is seriously suffering the effects of his numerous concussions.
So did Rashad Evans end Liddell’s career? It is possible that the concussion he suffered during UFC 88 was one to many for the Iceman.
Let’s just hope the concerned statment from Dana White holds true, that he will never allow Chuck Liddell to fight in the UFC again.
