UFC Champ – Jon Jones Arrested on DUI charge
Reigning UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones, was arrested early Saturday morning after crashing his Bentley into a utility pole near his hometown in Ithaca. Jones’ management team confirmed the arrest stating, “The facts of this situation are still being gathered and situated.”
The Broome County Sheriff’s department reportedly took Mr. Jones, into custody at approximately 5 a.m. EST.
Jones’ management team released a statement:
“I can confirm that Jon Jones was arrested early this morning on suspicion of DUI,” stated manager Malki Kawa. “While the facts of this situation are still being gathered and situated, First Round Management fully supports Jon, and we are asking for fans and media to respect the privacy of Jon and his family during this time.
Dana White comments, “I’m a realist. You can’t expect all these people to be perfect. I understand they’re role models. They’re human beings. They’re going to make mistakes. I’m one of those guys that believes we’re all going to make mistakes – it’s how you handle it after you make that mistake that tells you who you really are.”
From Jon Jones this morning via facebook:
Man I haven’t added anyone new to my Facebook page in like three years and right now I’m so glad that I haven’t. It has literally been sickening to have so many people try to kick me while I’m down. At the same time, I totally understand, I gave them the leeway to. I screwed up, big time. Just needed to say thank you to all you guys for being amazing friends/supportersAlways having to deal with so many critics, haters and fickle mma fans, I almost forgot how strong of a home base I had (607 and people that knew me before I was a champion fighter). Although the hell that will come with this hasn’t even started yet, I want you guys to know how much better you’ve all made me feel, not only about this situation but about life, everything. It’s good to feel that people are there and care. With that being said, I felt I should apologize to you first.
I’m truly sorry to those of you that I may have embarrassed in any way, to those of you with kids that I may have let down. I will prove to them as well as to myself, that no matter what is happening in life, we can always work our way back and make things even better than before. Reading you guys uplifting comments was a great reminder for me to not give up on who I am or all the hateful people. I’m not gonna allow this situation to outweigh the positive. I love you guys right back and I promise to make things right. PS sorry about the terrible grammar

Frank Mir Breaks Nogueira’s Arm In Gruesome Submission (Video)
Frank Mir breaks Big Nogs Arm with Kimura – Download Video
Former heavyweight champion Frank Mir became the first man to submit Brazilian great Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in mixed martial arts competition, finishing him with a horrific first-round kimura in the co-main event. The hold snapped Nogueira’s shoulder out of place in gruesome fashion, eliciting the tapout 3:38 into round one.
“Now I’m the first person to knock him out and the first person to submit him,” Mir said.
Nogueira (33-7-1, 1 NC, 4-3 UFC) had Mir badly hurt before the submission. He landed a right hook, backed it up with a left and put Mir on wobbly legs. It went to the ground, and Nogueira swarmed with punches, closing fast on the finish. Somehow, the Las Vegan survived.
“I was stunned. I was really trying to play out the first three or four minutes to see what he was doing differently,” Mir said. “He caught me. I didn’t come up to my knees, so he couldn’t drive into me. I kept flat, chest heavy and was able to break it. That’s what I trained for.”
During a subsequent scramble, Mir (16-5, 14-5 UFC) caught the arm, locked up the kimura and wrenched. Nogueira tried to roll free, but Mir only cinched it deeper. Ultimately, the arm snapped and Nogueira tapped in visible pain.
“I honestly hope that Nogueira ends up being OK,” Mir said. “I idolize him. When you’re our size and you’re as dangerous as we are, things happen. You can get caught. It takes nothing away from Nogueira.”

UFC signs $700 Million Deal w/ FOX!!
Dana White has been “no commenting” a lot during recent weeks. Especially when it came to the details of a potential deal arising quickly with FOX Network.
Offers have been piling up on the table.
Already negotiating a contract renewal with SpikeTV, the UFC also had new offers coming in from CBS, Comcast, and another unique opportunity to overtake the G4 network and turn the channel into a 24/7 MMA network.
Then the UFC then received an out of the park offer from FOX. A seven-year deal worth over $100 million annually. This includes four prime time, LIVE event broadcasts per year on FOX, and great time slots for the hit TV show The Ultimate Fighter. on the network channel and Fox Sports channels.
“The Fox deal accelerated at 100 mph in recent months.”
- Dana White (UFC President)
Exposure for MMA and then UFC is continuing to skyrocket, and as mixed martial arts becomes more of a mainstream sports it’s clear that the sky’s the limit.
The UFC’s debut broadcast event on FOX will be from the Honda Center in Anaheim ,CA on November 12th, 2011.
